North Yelahanka area guide: living near Tarahunase and Rajanukunte

North Yelahanka is the stretch of North Bengaluru beyond Yelahanka town, around the villages of Tarahunase, Rajanukunte and Chapparakallu. It sits between Doddaballapura Road to the west and Bellary Road, the highway to the airport, to the east. For home buyers, it offers open land, lakes, good schools and quick access to the airport. It asks you to accept longer drives for shopping and hospitals.

Where is North Yelahanka?

Yelahanka itself is an old town and a busy suburb, with a railway junction, the Air Force station and established neighbourhoods such as Yelahanka New Town. Head north from there and the city thins out quickly. Farmland, lakes and large institutional campuses take over.

The main landmarks are the Embassy International Riding School, Stonehill International School, Vidyashilp University and the Padukone Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence. Rajanukunte has a small railway station on the Doddaballapura line.

Roads and travel

Distances are measured from Embassy South Reserve on OpenStreetMap. Most drives south towards the city use Bellary Road. The airport is the easy trip; the old job hubs in the south and east of the city are not.

What North Yelahanka does well

• Schools. Stonehill International School, Gurukul School and Sadhu Vaswani International School are all within about 2.5 km of Tarahunase. Our schools guide lists them with distances.
• Air and space. Large campuses, lakes and farmland mean lower density and more green than most of the city.
• Sport. The riding school and the Padukone Dravid Centre are both close.
• The airport. About 12 km in a straight line, which matters for frequent flyers and families abroad.

What it still lacks

• Shops. Our map data shows no large supermarket within walking distance of Tarahunase. Weekly shopping means a drive to Yelahanka.
• Hospitals. Only small clinics lie within 4 km. Larger hospitals are in Yelahanka and further south.
• Metro. There is no metro station nearby. Plan on a car.

These gaps usually close as new townships bring residents, and shops follow people. But you should buy for the area as it is, not as a brochure hopes it will be.

Who is building here?

Embassy Group is the most visible developer in this pocket. Its Embassy Springs township lies to the north east, and it is now building Embassy Origins at Tarahunase on land the family has held for more than thirty years. Origins has two parts: the apartments of South Reserve and the villas of Riverine.

Who should buy in North Yelahanka?

It suits families who prioritise schools and space, people who work in the north of the city or near the airport, and buyers abroad who want a short trip from arrivals to home. It suits less well a daily commuter to Whitefield, Electronic City or the Outer Ring Road.

What to look at on a visit

A brochure cannot tell you how an area feels. On a visit to North Yelahanka, look at the width and state of the approach roads, and how long the last stretch takes at peak hour. Check mobile signal inside the site. Ask how the project will get its water, and whether power is supplied from a local substation. Walk to the nearest shop and time it.
